Helping Parents Cope in the Aftermath of Suicide

Following the well attended zoom sessions in Hebrew regarding suicide awareness and prevention, the Moetzot of Efrat and Gush Etzion received many requests for an English presentation to parents on the same subject. Last Thursday, a zoom presentation took place, "Helping Parents Cope in the Aftermath of Suicide: Tools to Help Children and Adolescents in Emotional Crisis and At-Risk for Suicidal Behaviors". The talk was given by Rona Novick, PhD, renowned clinical psychologist and Dean of the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education at Yeshiva University. The program was sponsored by the Moetzot of Efrat and Gush Etzion.

Dr Novick’s genuine empathy for our communities was tangible. She took a topic that is fraught with much anxiety and made it into something that could be approached in a calm and thoughtful manner. She provided important information and concrete tools that were empowering to parents and professionals alike. She discussed myths and facts about suicide, identified red flags and risk factors, provided tools to talk with children and adolescents about suicide and mental health, and gave practical recommendations for building resilience in our youth.

We have received much positive feedback and have had many requests for the recording, attached below. We hope that we can all apply what was learned in a preventative manner to strengthen our children, adolescents and their families.
