“And you, Bethlehem Efratah, least among the clans of Judah, from you one shall come forth to rule Israel for Me, one whose origin is from ancient times.”  (Micha, 5:1)

Efrat was established on the eve of Passover, April 10th,1983. It was designed as an urban locality with a national religious identity, according to the vision and initiative of Moshe Moshkovitz, a member of Kibbutz Mesuot Yitzhak, and in cooperation with the Judean Mountains Development Society and Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, founder of the Ohr Torah Stone Network.

Efrat is located south of Jerusalem and north of Kiryat Arba, and is spread out over seven hills which overlook the mountains of Judea and Jerusalem. The mild weather, high quality of life, and values driven education provided in local schools, combined with the diverse population consisting of young families and seniors, native Israelis and immigrants from around the world, makes Efrat a sought-after community among families and young people.
